THE ARMED MAN, the hugely popular Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins, will be the opening concert of this years’ Exon Singers Festival, which takes place in Tavistock from 27th July to 1st August. The Armed Man will be the first in a series of Festival Evenings, which include an Organ Recital by Andrew Lumsden, Organist of Winchester Cathedral (Wednesday 28th), Baroque Inspiration, including Praetorius Magnificat and Pergolesi Stabat Mater (Thursday 29th), a recording of BBC Sunday Half Hour (Friday 30th) and the Festival Finale Concert (Saturday 31st), which will include the Haydn Nelson Mass and music by Philip Moore and 2010 Composer-in-Residence, Joseph Phibbs. We will be giving a world premiere performance of a new work by Joseph Phibbs as part of Choral Evening Prayer, which will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 from Buckfast Abbey on Wednesday 28th July at 16.00 BST.

Over the course of the Festival the choir will give a variety of concerts and services including the beautiful and contemplative evening service of Compline on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. This year, the Festival features two lunchtime concerts, one on Thursday 29th July given by the Exon Consort and including the Byrd Mass for four voices, and on Saturday 31st July a  Song Recital given by members of the choir.

We hope you will join us for our annual Festival, whether in person or listening on the BBC !
