The Marvolo Quartet

Formed in 2015 at the Royal Northern College of Music, The Marvolo Quartet are a fresh, dynamic string quartet that are firmly establishing themselves in Manchester. Passionate about a diverse variety of music, their highlights include performing at the sold-out ‘Neon Sonnets’ series at the John Ryland’s Library as part of ‘Manchester After Hours’ in 2016, whilst also being chosen to perform for RNCM’s ‘In Focus’ series, working with acclaimed composer Colin Matthews and performing his String Quartet No.5 in the RNCM Concert Hall in the same year. Over the past few years, they have performed in RNCM’s prestigious Chamber Music Festival, presenting audiences with Kodaly’s rarely-heard String Quartet No.2 and the Nicholson Piano Quintet. They were also chosen to play a selection of Ravel works and new compositions last October, featuring as the string players in RNCM’s Sinfonietta ensemble, where they performed in a lunchtime concert and a masterclass taken by Sir Mark Elder. The quartet have been coached by many of the RNCM’s visiting tutors, including members of the Chilingirian Quartet, Elias Quartet and Talich Quartet, and performing as an octet with the Elias Quartet in a short recital at the RNCM. They regularly hold recitals in Manchester and the surrounding areas, and have an exciting year ahead of them as they prepare to perform in venues across the country.
