Josef Laming – Festival Organist

Josef Laming has just finished reading music at the University of Oxford, where he was the Senior Organ Scholar at New College. As well as playing the organ for the daily services in the chapel, Josef’s duties included training the choristers, giving termly organ recitals, and playing the harpsichord in performances of Bach’s St John Passion and Christmas Oratorio. Josef appears on the choir’s latest CD, Like as the Hart, and a soon-to-be released disc of the music of Hubert Parry. Last year he enjoyed touring with the choir to the U.S.A. and Hungary, where he appeared playing Byrd and Buxtehude on Hungarian national radio as part of the Filharmónia Magyarország festival. Josef has a passion for early music and period performance, and has enjoyed playing the harpsichord for the Oxford Bach Soloists and the Bate Players, Oxford’s student-run historically informed performance ensemble. Josef has secured a scholarship to study the harpsichord at the Royal Academy of Music from September 2018.
